Once you reach the top, you don't know where to look. Left, right, in front of you, behind you - the view is spectacular everywhere. And especially during sunset, when the sun sinks slowly behind the hills and the city is enveloped in a golden glow, the views from the Karni Mata Temple are magically beautiful.
Due to its elevated position on the Machla Magra Hills, the Karni Mata Temple offers great views of the city, the lakes and the many green hills that surround Udaipur. Like the rat temple of the same name in Bikaner, the temple is dedicated to the goddess Karni Mata. It was built between 1620 and 1628 by Maharana Karan Singh and the story goes that a visit to the temple extends your life. The viewpoint is just below the old center and can be reached via a hiking trail and a cable car. The trail starts in the Manikal Verma Park, next to the Doodh Talai lake, and it takes about 15-20 minutes before you reach the top. Because everyone wants to go down at the same time after sunset, the queues for the way back are very long. We therefore chose to walk back and were down again within fifteen minutes.
