Highlights Of North India

India is a unique experience for travelers in every way. Beautiful nature, busy cities, special sights. India is visited by all kinds of different travelers and has something for everyone. You will find budget accommodation for backpackers, but you can also sit in nicer hotels if you have something more to spend.

The most popular area for travelers is northern India, and in particular the state of Rajasthan. Travelers often choose to visit the golden triangle in combination with a number of beautiful cities.

Northern India

Northern India is the part of India where most tourists go. In about 2-3 weeks you can make a beautiful route through the state of Rajasthan and see the highlights of this area. Of course you have to visit the Taj Mahal here, you can go on camel safari in Jaisalmer and you see the spiritual side of India in the intense Varanasi.

Golden triangle

Most travelers visit the 'golden triangle' of India during their journey. These are the cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. These cities are called so because they are the absolute must-see cities in India. These cities are therefore one of the most beautiful sights of North India. In addition, Rajasthan has much more to offer. Get taxi for your tour from Taxi Service In Udaipur.

Delhi

Delhi is the capital of India and also the place where your plane is likely to arrive. It is a hub for transportation in India . From here you can easily travel to many other cities in India.

Almost everything can be found in this big city: the richness of New Delhi, with wide streets, pavilions and parks, to shabby Old Delhi with narrow streets and lots of people. Delhi has a wealth of monuments, with a history of at least three thousand years. For example, visit Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, the Red Fort, the president's palace or the Indian Gate. Remember, if you travel by bus or car, you will soon be in a traffic jam, watching life in Delhi pass by.

A good alternative is traveling in Delhi by metro; busy, but fast and cheap. You can also choose to take a rickshaw. If you negotiate properly about the price they are not expensive. The drivers are usually so agile and the rickshaws so small that you can easily maneuver through all the traffic and have relatively few problems with traffic jams (unless everything is completely stuck of course).

Do you want to experience a completely different faith up close? Then take a look at a Sikh temple. Here you will not only find men with impressive turbans, but you can also relax after the bustle in the city.

Many scammers are active in Delhi who try to convince you that a train is not going, that the office where you want to buy your ticket is closed or that your bus is not going. Don't listen to these people and just go where you need to be.

A tip: buy tickets for the train immediately upon arrival in a new city so that you don't have to return to the station more often than necessary. It is often a hassle to come back to the station because, for example, it is far from your place to sleep. If you get a ticket right away, that is simply arranged and you don't have to take an extra ride to the station.

Agra

A visit to Agra is certainly not to be missed during a trip to India . This is where the world famous Taj Mahal stands. Preferably visit the Taj Mahal early in the morning. It is a lot quieter and the sunrise is breathtaking here. If you are still in Agra; take the bus to Fatehpur Sikri . This is a deserted town near Agra. Here you will find an impressive mosque with a very beautiful palace complex.

In Agra it is full of monkeys, which can sometimes be very aggressive. It is therefore important to leave them alone.

About 50 km from Agra is the Keoladeo National Park, in Bharatpur. This is known as the home of some 230 bird species. The rare Siberian crane hibernates here. Furthermore, mammals and reptiles also live here.

Varanasi

Varanasi is really a must see. Here you will certainly be confronted with the less beautiful side of India. Dirty, dirty, lots of cows and the worst scammers. On the other hand, cremations, bathing, washing, ceremony etc. that all take place along the Ganges are very special. A wonderfully chaotic city, let yourself be taken. If you want a bit of rest, Sarnath is a pleasant day trip. Buddhist tranquility, temples from all over the world and the tree where Buddha gave his first Dharma reading. You must have seen Varanasi.

Jaipur

Jaipur  is another big city that is best known for its many astrologers and fortune tellers. Have you always wanted to know if your future can really be predicted? This is the place to discover it. Jaipur is also known for the famous "palace of the winds", a very narrow and special palace. You will also find several beautiful forts in Jaipur.

Jodhpur

Jodhpur is nicknamed the blue city because almost all houses are painted blue. That mainly provides a beautiful picture from one of the viewpoints. You will also find one of the most beautiful forts in Rajasthan in Jodhpur.

Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer  is a city on the edge of the Thar desert with a beautiful fortress where people live. What is also striking here is the women's clothing, often beautiful dresses. Many travelers come to Jaisalmer to go on a safari through the desert, often by camel.

Bikaner

Bikaner is a nice alternative to Jaisalmer. Bikaner is also located in the desert and you have more choice in camel rides. You will also find a beautiful fort here and a huge fabric market with all kinds of beautiful fabrics. An additional advantage: many tourists go to Jaisalmer, Bikaner sees fewer Western tourists and is therefore somewhat more authentic India.

Gwalior

Between Agra and Varanasi you can make a small detour and visit several nice towns. Gwalior is a large city just south of Agra. Here you have a very beautiful fortress that looks out over the entire city. Take 1 day off for Gwalior.

Mathura

Mathura is also near Agra, but then north. It is one of the places that are rarely visited, but very worthwhile. Mathura is a true Indian city, with a totally different dynamic than Delhi, Agra and Varanasi, precisely because it is not a tourist spot for foreigners, but a place where many domestic tourists come. No western restaurants here, but nice dhabas. Mathura is the birthplace of Lord Krishna. In Agra, buses go to Mathura every half hour and the last bus back to Agra goes around 7.30 p.m. Mathura has a number of beautiful temple complexes, very Disney-like, as you see in Haridwar. The Krishna temples are often filled with images of the Krishna story, glass mosaics, images and moving dolls.

Vrindavan

Vrindavan (say: Brindavan)  is a small and quiet town and really recommended. You will find several beautiful temples here. Visit ISKCON, the Hare Krishna temple here. The temple is very beautiful and you can enjoy live music here every day. The music is played on traditional instruments by monks or nuns. Vrindavan is a great experience if you want to experience something more of the mystical side of India.

Puskhar

Puskhar  is a town near Jaipur. There is little to do here, but perhaps this is the charm of the town. There are few cars, many shops, a lake and a lot of hippies. There is a very relaxed atmosphere in the city. Here is also the only temple for Brahma. At the end of October / beginning of November there is a camel market here every year and that is quite an experience in itself. Then people from all over the region come to Pushkar.

Bundi

There isn't much to do in Bundi either, but it feels like an authentic piece of India. There is a lively trade in the small streets. You can take the climb to the fort, where you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Also visit the hundreds of years old stepwell.
